Income impact

Estimate how taking parental benefit (föräldrapenning) changes your income. Use the Monthly mode for a quick view, or Total mode if you want to enter exact numbers of days.

Benefit setup
Uses yearly caps and benefit constants.
Household mode is intended for a full 480-day plan for one child.
Monthly = quick average. Total = enter exact days.
Parents
Parent 1
Gross salary before leave.
If provided, SGI overrides salary × 12 for SGI-level benefit.
Monthly leave pattern
Decimals allowed (1/8 steps). Example: 2.5 can represent five half-days/week.
If not met, the first 180 SGI/basic days are paid at the basic level (250 SEK/day).
Used only to apply the 240-day rule logic for the first 180 days.
Tax & net estimate (optional)
Used to suggest a Skatteverket tax table number (based on total municipal tax rate, excl. Church of Sweden fee).
Suggested from municipality; you can override with your A-tax certificate table.
For most employees, use column 1 (or 3 if 66+ at year start).
Optional: estimate benefit net. Real withholding can follow Skatteverket decisions/tables.
Work schedule
Used to value salary impact and to cap salary reduction to your workdays.
Used for Skatteverket tax tables (preliminary withholding).
Results
Benefit gross (avg/month) Gross parental benefit for the period shown (monthly average in Monthly mode, or selected days in Total mode). SGI-level uses the yearly cap and replacement rate; Basic and Minimum use fixed daily amounts.

Salary reduced by (gross/month) Monthly mode: salary reduction is estimated from your workdays/week, benefit days/week, and withdrawal fraction. Total mode: salary value is estimated as salary per workday × (selected benefit days × min(1, workdays/week ÷ benefit days/week)). This avoids counting weekend withdrawals as lost salary.

Gross change vs working Gross change compares: parental benefit (gross) minus the salary value you would have earned while working. Negative means your gross income is lower during leave than if you worked for those days.
N/A
Net change vs working Net uses preliminary tax withholding. Salary withholding is calculated from Skatteverket tax tables (table + column). Benefit withholding uses your chosen method (for planning).

Quick compare - benefit days/week This table recalculates the same scenario for 1 to 7 benefit days per week (calendar weeks are always based on a 52-week year). Monthly mode: shows the monthly average change vs working. Total mode: shows the total change for the selected days (benefit amount stays the same; salary impact only changes if you withdraw more than your workdays/week).
